As a child, I can remember spending time with my grandmother, Anna Lucille, lovingly called “Anna Lou.” She had eight children, a style all her own, a love for color, mixing different styles and periods, and a knack for making a house feel like a home. I have inherited her love, and some would say her “knack,”.
My grandfather’s family had “the shop,” where they made furniture, called “Cicero’s Antiques.” As a result, I have grown up with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and a mother who always said, “Good furniture is meant to be loved, used, and enjoyed. If the furniture is of good quality, you can just have it refinished.”
There is a coffee table currently standing in my parents’ living room that has withstood children dancing, coloring, racing matchbox cars, and with five girls and three boys, someone was always standing on it to stare at themselves in the mirror. You name it – that table as seen it! It contains an inherent beauty and too many memories to count.
I think homes should be filled with artwork, furniture, and accessories that you love, that in some way speak to your heart.
